New Balance launched the newest version of their FuelCell performance shoe designed specifically for speed. We needed to develop an event that would attract an audience of fast runners, and give them the opportunity to trial the shoe. The result – Can You Beat Zak?
NEW BALANCE CAN YOU BEAT ZAK?
In South Africa, the face of FuelCell is New Balance’s very own track athlete Zakithi Nene. In collaboration with Red Bull, we hosted a track day at the University of Wits and gave runners the opportunity to beat Zak’s 400m personal best time of 40.2 seconds in a pair of FuelCell shoes. Runners could either race in a 2-person relay or individually. The team/individual that got to the closest time would win the full FuelCell look.
Alongside Das Kapital to set the atmosphere, and Cato Louw as the MC, over 25 runners were powered through their session resulting in a team being short of Zaks time by just 2 seconds in a pair of FuelCell shoes.
